Apex History & Overview
Apex, first settled around 1867, was so named because it was the highest point on the Chatham Railroad between Richmond, Virginia and Jacksonville, Florida.  The Apex town motto is "Peak of Good Living".  Located in southwestern Wake County, Apex is a small town of about 12 sq. miles and approximately 30,000 residents.  It combines a relaxing small-town atmosphere with convenience to big-city amenities in Raleigh and Cary.  Although poised for growth and expansion opportunities, the town planners are working to ensure that the small-town character remains true.
